ABB Ltd (ABB) provides power and automation technologies to utility and industry customers worldwide. The company’s Power Products are key components to transmit and distribute electricity. The division incorporates ABB’s manufacturing network for transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, cables and associated equipment. The Power Systems division offers systems and services for power transmission and distribution grids, and for power plants.

Additional products include flexible alternating current transmission systems (FACTS), high-voltage direct current (HVDC) systems and network management systems. The Automated Products division produces drives, motors and generators, low voltage products, instrumentation and analytical, and power electronics.

ABB provides more efficient power distribution, so less energy is lost during transmission. Electricity is sent through transmission and distribution systems to end users who are often hundreds or even thousands of kilometers away. Losses typically range from 6 to 8 percent, but can be as high as 10 percent. Current technology can save substantial amounts of electricity and increase the capacity of transmission and distribution networks, so that more power can reach consumers over existing networks instead of building new transmission lines and power plants.

A vast majority of ABB’s industrial product range improves energy savings by helping factories run more productively with state-of-the-art control systems, automation products and electrical equipment. ABB’s key technologies include controls, enterprise software, instrumentation, low-voltage products, drives, motors, robots and turbochargers.  ABB also ships millions of products for the commercial and residential building sector and is a producer of low-voltage devices and automated control and building automation systems that can help to achieve savings mainly in three areas: temperature control, lighting control and building automation.
